Первое существенное сражение Гражданской войны [ Civil War] 21 июля 1861 между северянами (30 тыс. человек) под командованием генерала Макдауэлла [McDowell, Irvin] и конфедератами (24 тыс. человек) под командованием генерала Борегара [Beauregard, P. G. T.]. Произошло на берегу р. Бул-Ран [Bull Run Creek], шт. Вирджиния, в 25 милях юго-западнее г. Вашингтона. Конфедераты занимали позиции вдоль южного берега, атака на их левый фланг была вначале успешной, но затем они перешли в контрнаступление и победили северян, которые потеряли около 1,5 тыс. человек убитыми и ранеными, 1,6 тыс. человек оказались в плену. Южане потеряли около 1,8 тыс. человек. Полковник южан Т. Джексон [ Jackson, Thomas Jonathan (Stonewall)] после этой битвы получил прозвище "Каменная стена". Северяне были вынуждены отступить в Вашингтон, но конфедераты не продолжили преследование. Произошло во время Гражданской войны [ Civil War] 30 августа 1862 между южанами под командованием генерал-майора Т. Джексона [ Jackson, Thomas Jonathan (Stonewall)] и северянами под командованием генерала Дж. Поупа [ Pope, John] на берегу р. Бул-Ран [Bull Run Creek], шт. Вирджиния, в 25 милях юго-западнее г. Вашингтона. Северяне атаковали позиции Джексона, занимавшего их до вечера. Когда 1 сентября левый фланг северян дрогнул, Джексон перешел в наступление и добился победы.
